Senior and Disabled Deferral Program Individuals or married couples/registered domestic partners with at least one person being age 62 or older with a household income of $38,500 or less from the previous year may defer payment of property taxes on their homes. State government pays the taxes to the county, maintains the account and charges 6% simple interest, which is also deferred. Apply between Jan. 1 and April 15.
An individual younger than 62 years old who is receiving Federal Social Security Disability benefits, with an income of $38,500 or less for the previous year, may qualify to have property taxes deferred, same as if a senior citizen. Apply between Jan. 1 and April 15.
Veterans Exemption Programs Military war veterans with a disability of 40% or more or the surviving spouse or registered domestic partner of a war veteran may be entitled to exempt a portion of his or her property's assessed value from property taxation. Apply between Jan. 1 and April 1.
The Oregon Active Military Service Member's Exemption, also known as Qualified Soldier's Exemption, became effective July 1, 2005, and exempts up to $67,531 of the assessed value of the homestead for soldiers who are deployed for at least 179 consecutive days, or the occupant of the home if the soldier is killed in action.
