Parks

Clatsop County parks offer a variety of recreational opportunities, including lake and river access, swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking and wildlife observation. You are invited to download a printable brochure describing and locating the parks. A map is available as a PDF document.

The day-use fee for Cullaby Lake, Carnahan Park and John Day is $3 per vehicle each day. Annual passes provide unlimited access to these parks throughout the calendar year. The cost is $25 for the first vehicle and two additional passes can be purchased at $5 each for vehicles owned by the same person or family. To purchase an annual pass by mail, please complete this park pass application. Park passes can also be purchased in person at the Clatsop County Clerk's Office, 820 Exchange St., second floor, Astoria.

ABOUT OUR PARKS:

Big Creek County Park, 36 acres in the Knappa area. Ball field, public access to Big Creek fishery and open space recreation. No facilities.

Carnahan County Park, 30 acres located at the north end of Cullaby Lake. Offers passive lake sports and day-use activities. Access point to land leased by the Boy Scouts of America. No facilities. Day-use fee $3 per vehicle, May-September.

Cullaby Lake County Park,165 acres off U.S. Highway 101 between Warrenton and Gearhart. Public access to lake (boat launch and docks), flush restroom, picnic shelters, barbecue pits, horseshoe pits, volleyball pit, play areas, fishing, swimming, nature observation (beavers, bald eagles, deer and waterfowl). New 1.5-mile wetlands interpretative trail for hikers and bicyclists with handicapped accessible viewing platform. Lindgren Cabin Finnish-American heritage site. David Douglas Park, U.S. Highway 26 13 miles east of Seaside. 64 acres of “old-growth” forest with sub-alpine fir. Open space recreation. No facilities.

Klootchy Creek Park, located along U.S. Highway 26 about 2.5 miles east of U.S. Highway 101. Site of Oregon's first State Heritage Tree, which was the largest tree in Oregon and the largest Sitka Spruce in the United States. Offers public access to Necanicum River and to remnant coastal temperate rainforest. Facilities include chemical toilets and trash receptacle. Regional visitation nearly 100,000 a year.

Lee Wooden Fishhawk Falls Park, located on Oregon Highway 202 25 miles east of Astoria. 55 acres of passive inland forest recreation, trail to Fishhawk Falls with footbridge. No facilities.

Nehalem Park, also known as Red Bluff. Located on U.S. Highway 26 about a half-mile east of Elsie. 50 acres of “old-growth” forest. No facilities.

North Fork Nehalem Park, Oregon Highway 53 at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fish hatchery. Three acres of prime steelhead fishing access on the North Fork of the Nehalem River. No facilities.

Sigfridson County Park, located on Oregon Highway 202 one mile east of Olney. Sixty-four acres of day-use recreation. Public access to Klaskanine River. No facilities.

Smith Lake Park, 2.5 wooded acres on west side of lake on Smith Lake Road, off Ridge Road. Natural area, foot path. No county maintenance.

Sunset Lake, picnicking, boat ramp, public land. No county maintenance.

BOATING FACILITIES:

Carnahan Lake*, graveled boat ramp to Cullaby Lake. Day-use fee $3 per vehicle during summer season.

Cullaby Lake*, off U.S. Highway 101 between Warrenton and Gearhart. Access to lake (boat launch and docks). Day-use fee $3 per vehicle.

John Day County Park, on U.S. Highway 30 just east of Astoria. Public boat launch to Columbia River, flush restrooms and landscaped entryway courtesy of Tongue Point Job Corps Center. Day-use fee $3 per vehicle.

Westport, one-half mile north of Westport. Boat launch to Columbia River. Chemical toilet.

Smith Lake, unimproved launch on Smith Lake Road for canoes, small boats. No county maintenance.

Lewis and Clark River, on Lewis and Clark Road near Logan Road, south of Astoria. Unimproved launch. No county maintenance.
